Grow the Future

Can we grow the materials of the future? You students can step into our living materials lab and explore how fungi, microbes and biology are inspiring new ways to design our world. They can play “Will It Break Down or Stay Around?”, toss the “microbe ball” to learn which materials can be easily broken down by nature and which stay around for much longer. Then, investigate real biomaterials and match them to their properties and uses, exploring examples including milk-based bioplastics, mycelium bricks, and kombucha leather!
